When I use Gimp to put an edge on JPG and keep them soft – how I can stop that?
If I have a JPG file from my digital camera, which open Gimp, add an edge to it, merge the layers (I have to or just to save as black) and then save, image smoothing and lose the freshness of the image original. How I can prevent this? Not happen all the time, even if I'm not doing anything different and the pictures are sharp. I'm on a Mac with Leopard 10.5
It is likely that the amount of compression you are using to save files. JPG uses lossy compression method to lose image information to save the file. Is more noticeable in some images than others.
