Confused zoom lens compact digital camera? Which is better? Canon, Carl Zeiss, Leica, Olympus ….?
Sony Cybershot or Panasonic Better than Canon Powershot Lumix and others due to its Leica lens or zoom Carl Zeiss?
One is not "better" than another are not just different. There are (at least) two schools of thought in the design of lenses, German lenses (Leica, Zeiss, etc.) focused on lines per mm and with Teutonic efficiency can measure, but has a price, the overall contrast and color contrast, in particular, suffer as Bokeh. The Japanese, Americans and (when there was one) all manufacturers British left with an image quality with higher contrast that offer better aesthetics, which pays your money and have your selection. All lens designs are a compromise is only the different schools of thought, I personally do not like Zeiss and Leica lenses (and yes I have several examples) I much prefer the more aesthetic representation of Japanese lenses. The German approach drops drastically when it is considered about why Leica and Zeiss do not zoom range. More modern coatings transparent glass available today is bringing the two schools closer, there is much difference as there was before. Chris
