CCD sensor sizes – numbers?

(Eg, 1/1.8 "is 7.18 mm x 5.32 mm CCD) (eg, 1/2.5" is 5.76 mm x 4.29 mm CCD) could not relate / to the formula of these numbers and 1/1.8 7.18 x 5.32 The reason I worry about this? Vi 1/1.7 " I know the sensor size is larger than 1/1.8 ". But what is the mm x mm numbers? Thanks.
