Sun printing can be done through three processes, it is usually a photographic process which produces the final output of conventional lithographic printing processes. The process uses a spread film of gelatin on a surface flat and rigid. This is covered with a dilute solution of potassium dichromate and dried in low light. A positive translucent ensures the final print in close contact with the gelatin layer treated and exposed to sunlight for a period of up to 30 minutes. During this time, sunlight and potassium dichromate gelatin so exposed to light.

The gelatin layer is developed by washing in warm water to untanned gelatin is washed away. The dry plate revealing the design required a relief printing. The surface can be signed and printed on a hand press to produce any number of identical copies of the original theme.

The other process involves the "impression" of a negative contact sheet of photo paper in black and white in the sun. Depending on the type of paper exposure can vary from a few minutes to a couple of hours. The document will be a developed image in brown with shades of purple, again depending on paper used. The paper is fixed and washed as normal processing. Later prints can be toned to achieve different tones.

The third form, and more traditional print sun, is called cyanotype. It is exposing the materials that have been treated with a solution of potassium citrate and ferric ferrocyanide, UV light, which is printed image in the material through a chemical reaction and is established by washing with water. For example, if a sheet is placed on paper treated with this solution and went to sit in the sun for about 10 minutes, the document will retain the image of the sheet after you have washed with water. After drying the paper, everything was exposed to UV rays from the sun to turn a shade of Prussian blue, while the part that was covered by the sheet will remain blank.

Another process also sunprinting called Setacolor is the use of transparent paint sensitive to light, on the web, to create an image photonegative. This type of sunprint is a monoprint in contact with photography. Multiple washes of paint can be layered to create artistic effects, and even the clearest traces of blue still come, others have recently developed by Pebe. This type of sunprinting also called blueprint. References: Revista Bohemia, November 03 issue. eBay Guide Sunprint art.
